Remi Bergeron received his bachelor’s degree in Physiotherapy from the University of Montreal in 2001 and is a member of "l’Ordre des Professionnels de la Physiotherapie du Québec". He has been a part of the Action Sport Physio Downtown Team since 2001 and he is now a Senior Physical Therapist at the clinic. Furthermore, as of January 2007, he is the VP of Operations at Action Sport Physio Downtown. Among many sporting events, Remi has treated and covered artists from Cirque du Soleil at their main training facility here in Montreal. Remi’s interest for Sports Medicine led him to become Head Physiotherapist for the Montreal Men’s Elite Gymnastic Team, IMCO in 2001. This allowed Remi to work with upcoming international leveled gymnasts as well as Olympic hopefuls. Remi demonstrated interest for teaching and supervising Physiotherapy students during their final stage. He is pursuing his specialization in Manual Therapy, aiming to attain his level E3V3 and plans to continue developing his expertise in Sport Physiotherapy. More recently, he has been pursuing expertise in “Kinetic Control”. Other qualifications include National Life Guarding Certification (pool and beach), official level 2 International Downhill Ski Federation Certification as well as a Level 2 National Coaching Certification Program and the Canadian Ski Coaches Federation. Passionate for sports, Remi has competed at the national level in Alpine Ski and Triathlon Events. He trains for many endurance and outdoor activities such as mountain biking, hiking, rock climbing, cross country skiing and white water kayaking. Since 2000 he has participated in a large number of races and most recently has been classified at an International Level in events throughout the United States, Brazil and Mexico.
Evelyne Bouchard
Evelyne graduated in acupuncture at Rosemont College in 2007 and is a member of the OAQ, l’Ordre des Acupuncteurs du Québec. She is also trained in kinetic Swedish massage and sports massage at the Institut Kiné-Concept of Montreal (in 2003 and 2004). She worked as a massage therapist in a physical conditioning center and in a SPA. During the summer 2006, she was a sports massage therapist for FINA (Federation Internationale de Natation) at the Swimming World Cup in Montreal. Evelyne is so dedicated to improving her techniques that she traveled to China to master her skills in acupuncture and tuina massage at the Zhejiang Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Hangzhou. She attended several continuing education seminars on the evaluation and the treatment of musculo-skeletal pain through the Trigger Points approach. In winter 2008, Evelyne joined the team of Action Sport Physio Downtown as an acupuncturist. She also continues to offer us her value in massage therapy. Empathic, motivated, generous, the therapist is listening to her patients and concerned of their well being. When she is not at the clinic, Evelyne enjoys swimming, cycling, climbing, singing and cooking. To relax, she is doing Qi Gong.
Dr. Mark Burman
Orthopedic Surgeon practicing at the Montreal General Hospital, Dr. Burman graduated in medicine from McGill University in 1992. He completed his residency in Orthopedics at McGill University and continued his fellowship in Sports Medicine at McGill in 1997-1998, at the University of Oklahoma in 1998-1999 and obtained a fellowship in Sports Medicine and Shoulder Surgery at the University of Toronto in 1999-2000. Dr. Burman is presently Orthopedic Surgeon to the Montreal Alouettes Football Team, the Montreal Impact Soccer Club and is a consultant for Cirque du Soleil, the McGill University Athletic Department and has clinics at both Action Sport Physio Downtown and St-Laurent.
Mylène Ciocca
Mylene Ciocca is a member of the Can-American Association of Massage Therapists. She graduated from the ²Institut de Formation en Masso-Kinésithérapie" in France, she specializes in Swedish Massage, Sport Massage, Relaxing Massage, Blood Massage and Energetic Massage. Furthermore, she is trained in Recovery Massage and Kinesitherapy. Mylene has 4 years experience with Massage Therapy. She has worked in numerous hospitals in France and in a variety of fields i.e: Orthopaedics, Functional Re-education, Neurology and Pediatrics. She has worked on many sporting events including the "World Tour" Beach Volleyball Event in Marseille along with Tennis, Cycling, Marathon and Skiing Events. Mylene also joined our team at Cirque du Soleil, working directly with the artists and performers on a part time basis. She recently graduated in Osteopathy at the "Académie d’Ostéopathie de Montréal".
Ryan Cohen
Personal TrainingRyan Cohen joined the Action Sport Physio Downtown team in 2008. He has been working at the Montreal West clinic since 2006 as a highly qualified personal trainer. From 1995 to 2004, Ryan worked as a search and rescue technician for the Canadian Armed Forces.He was responsible for training new recruits and was the battalion medical officer. He also worked as a volunteer firefighter and paramedic. He is experienced in corrective conditioning, muscle activation, pilates and conditioning for golf. Ryan has a broad professional background in medical care and physical fitness. He is able to detect any physical imbalances and he can use the motivational tools learned through the military and counseling to educate individuals to balance body and mind. Ryan will give you the attention, the motivation and the body education to make you achieve your goals!
Dominique David
A graduate in Communications and Journalism at the University of Montreal, Dominique David has experience in Marketing, Promotion, Communication, Public Relations and Journalism. Since the fall of 2007, she has been working as a Patient and Public Relations Representative at Action Sport Physio Downtown. Dominique is responsible for updating the patient data base. She writes letters, organizes special events, updates the website, etc. She works alongside the Vice-President of Administration, Kim Pantridge, and theVice-President of Public Relations, Anne Bégin.She ensures that all patients receive the best possible care while they receive treatment at our facility. If you have any comments or concerns about your treatment, feel free to voice them to Dominique. Ariane Fafard
Ariane Fafard graduated from Physical Therapy at the University of Montreal in 2007, she is a member of the "Ordre des professionnels de la physiothérapie du Québec". During her studies, Ariane has developed a deep interest for Sport Medicine. She has been a Physiotherapist Assistant of the University of Montreal Football Team, the Carabins. After her stage at Action Sport Physio Downtown, Ariane remains as a full time physiotherapist. Her motivation and professionalism led her to take over for Rémi Bergeron as Head Physiotherapist for the Montreal Men’s Elite Gymnastic Team of IMCO. Her love for sports overflows into her personal life. Passionate for snowboarding and roadster, Ariane appreciates outdoor activities and going to the gym.
Patrick Handfield
Patrick Handfield graduated from McGill University in 1985 with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy. In 1987, he completed his Canadian Athletic Therapy Certification. He is a recognized Physiotherapist and Certified Athletic Therapist. He is a member of the "Ordre professionnel de la physiothérapie du Québec", the Canadian Physiotherapist Association and he is an active member of the Canadian Athletic Therapists Association as well as a member of the Acupuncture Foundation of Canada. Since graduation Patrick has continued to demonstrate an interest in Physical and Sports Medicine. He is presently the Head Therapist and Coordinator of the Health Services Department at Cirque du Soleil and the National Circus School, as well as Head Physiotherapist of the Downtown branch of Action Sport Physio and Vice President of Action Sport Medicine International. He has attended various Provincial, National and International athletic events including the 2000 Sydney Olympics, 1996 Atlanta Olympics, 1992 Paralympics Games in Barcelona, the 1988-89, 91-92 World Junior Hockey Championships in Anchorage and Germany, the 1989 Francophone Games (as Head Therapist), the 1991 World Cup of Gymnastics in Montréal, the 1987 Junior Pan-AM Track and Field Championship in Jamaica, the 1991 Canada Games. He is medical coordinator of the Canadian Track and Field Championships, a position he assumed in 1990. He acts as a consultant with the National Federations for Hockey, Gymnastics and Track & Field. Always current on various topics in the field of Physical and Sports Medicine, Patrick has taken additional professional training in Manual Therapy, Muscle Energy, Myofascial Release, Biomechanics of the lumbar spine and pelvis, Management of cervical headaches, and others. As well, he takes great interest in exploring new techniques with his co-workers from other countries as he travels on special assignments with different sporting organizations. Away from his practice you will find him running, cycling, playing tennis, hiking or playing beach volleyball. During the winter months, he spends some of his time skiing but his passion will always be our national sport: hockey.
Maude Heppell
Maude Heppell completed her bachelor degree in Physiotherapy at University of Ottawa in 2007 and is a member of the "Ordre des Physiothérapeutes du Québec". She completed her final stage at Action Sport Physio Downtown with Sara Roy and joined the team permanently following graduation. Always looking for new adventures, Maude recently took up deep-sea diving. She is an avid mountain biker and yoga enthusiast but snow boarding remains her passion. To relax Maude enjoys music, reading and watching movies.
Liliane Holtmann
Liliane Holtmann is one of our Senior Physiotherapists. She graduated from McGill in 1987 with a Bachelor of Sciences in Physical Therapy. Liliane is a member of the "Ordre des professionnels de la physiothérapie du Québec". Having worked five years at the Royal Victoria Hospital, Liliane devoted her energy mainly to the athletic community at the Physio Out-Patient Orthopedic Department. She participates actively in the Sports Clinic directed by Dr. Costello where many classical ballet and modern dancers are seen and treated, as well as many other sports related injuries. Liliane has additional professional training as she has completed courses in Manual Therapy E2-V2, Muscle Energy and the McKenzie Technique for back and neck problems. She is coordinator for the clinical teaching of the Physiotherapy students at our clinic. Liliane joined the St-Bruno Action Sport Physio Team in 1991 the Downtown clinic in 1993. Besides working, Liliane enjoys jogging (has completed half marathons), yoga and meditation classes, cross country skiing and painting!
Marie-Hélène Legault
Marie-Hélène Legault graduated from the University of Montreal in 2006 with a Bachelor Degree in Physiotherapy. She is a member of "l’Ordre des professionnels de la physiothérapie du Québec". Throughout her studies, Marie-Hélène developed a strong interest in Sports Medicine and began working with the Football Team at University of Montreal, the Carabins, where she treated players for two consecutive years. Marie-Hélène completed Taping, Sport Massage, Sports First Responder Clinics and her Level One and Two Manual Therapy Certifications. She looks forward to furthering her knowledge…after all learning does not come to an end after a B.Sc.! In addition, she participated in the project for the Prosthesis and Re-adaptation of Total Knee Replacements with The Westmount Square Surgical Center. She has recently joined ranks at Cirque du Soleil as a replacement Physiotherapist. When she is not at the clinic, Marie-Hélène enjoys working out and participating in many sports including ringette, beach volleyball and anything else that keeps her moving!
Sophie Limoges
Sophie Limoges graduated from the University of Quebec in 2003 with a doctorate in Chiropractic. She uses Applied Kinesiology as a diagnostic tool for her chiro treatments. AK is a Neuromusculoskeletal Testing Technique which allows a more unified view of the body’s functioning by screening the body’s base muscle function, joint work, neurological function, visceral reflexes, biochemical and even the emotional side of the body. Sophie began training for triathlons at the age of 16 and later on added weight training working with a very knowledgeable trainer. She competed in triathlons for 5 years and then took on adventure racing. Among her clients are many triathletes, cyclists, runners and youths from athletic teams in Montreal. She sponsors two international level triathletes: Kathy Tremblay and David-James Taché.
Bruno Ouellette
Bruno began his career as a Psychologist in the field or Organization in 1990. From 1990 to 1999, he worked in Alberta in the field of Organizational Change geared toward employees. For 15 years he has advised and coached Professional Athletes and Canadian Drill Instructors, helping them to improve their well-being and reach their human potential and athletic performance. He takes a multidisciplinary approach and clearly identifies alternatives. He has worked with our top Canadian Athletes and Instructors at the Olympics in Salt Lake City 2002, Athens 2004 and Turin 2006. Presently he is working with some of our best athletes in preparation for the next Olympic Games. He is the writer of the training program: "Le Sens de la Performance" (The Way to Performance) offered in collaboration with the School of Management at UQAM. His approach shows that the best means to obtaining high-level performance is to put emphasis on the individuals, their wellbeing, their needs and the full realization of their potential.
Charles Piette
Charles Piette graduated from University of Ottawa in 2006 with a bachelor degree in Physiotherapy. Member of "l’Ordre des professionnels de la physiothérapie du Québec", Charles joined the Action Sport Physio team in 2008. He is working at our Cirque du Soleil clinic. This physiotherapist plans to continue developing his expertise in sport physiotherapy. He studied the manual therapy, sport taping, McKenzie techniques and Mulligan Upper Quadrant techniques. Charles has treated many athletes and has attended various athletic events including: the 2007 Handball Pan American Championships in Chile, the 2006/07 CAMO Invitational at Montreal and soon, he will participate in the FINA World Championships in Moscow as well as Montreal.Charles has a passion for golf, snowboarding and rock climbing, he is a hardened sportsman.
Susan Railer
Susan has a broad professional background in the health industry and a wealth of knowledge in all manners of alternative medicine. In addition she has an extensive background in dance, gymnastics and weight training. She graduated from McGill University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education. After several years of teaching Physic-Education at the grade school level she returned to school to deepen her knowledge of the body and its mechanics. Since then she has been certified as a Polarity Therapist, Craniosacral Therapist, Myofascial Release Therapist and Homeopathic Therapist. Additionally Susan is a D.O. graduate from The Osteopathic School. After graduating at the top of her class in osteopathy, Susan was invited to join the team at Centre de Médecine Douce de Montréal of ASP. In her space time Susan enjoys golfing, cycling, walking her dogs and spending time with her family.
Sara Roy
After arriving in Montreal in 1998, Sara Roy began her first degree in Physiology at McGill University. She then completed a degree in Physiotherapy, which included an internship at Action Sport Physio with Liliane Holtmann. Shortly after graduation, she worked at Polyclinique Santa Cabrini until taking on a full-time position at Action Sport Physio Downtown where she has now been since September 2004. Sara enjoys playing squash, badminton, basketball, and loves to read, watch hockey and football.
Sergio Velásquez
Member of the CATA, Canadian Athletic Therapy Association, Sergio Velásquez graduated in Athletic Therapy from Concordia University in 2007. He worked for different sport teams such as the AAA soccer team of the Montreal Concordia Elite Soccer Club and for various hockey, tae kwon do, greco roman wrestling and football tournaments. In his free time, Sergio enjoys sports such as soccer and hockey as well as listening to music and playing the guitar.
Jesse Whyte
Fascinated by the machine, our human body, Jesse Whyte graduated from Concordia University in Exercise Science with a specialization in Athletic Therapy in 2007. This athletic therapist has worked for Action Sport Physio Downtown since 2008. Jesse worked as an athletic therapist for Le Défi Sportif and for Le grand tour du Québec in 2007. He has a professional background in personal training. He enjoys playing rugby, racing his bicycle, doing triathlons and climbing.
