In March of 1998 I began a whole new life by moving
to Montreal, Quebec to skate with my new partner, David Pelletier.
This partnership was something I had wanted for a long time. In
our enthusiasm we made the mistake of pushing too hard, too fast
and in essence, we over-trained. As a result, after only three weeks
of skating together, I developed a severe Achilles tendonitis. It
progressed to the point where I could not even put on my skates.
David fortunately knew Alain Scheldeman of Action Sport Physio,
who has been with the Canadian Figure Skating Team for the past
five years. From the moment I walked into his clinic I knew I was
in the best possible hands. My three hours of intensive treatments
at Action Sport Physio became a daily routine for seven weeks. In
spite of being emotionally low and extremely frustrated by the injury,
Alain and his friendly staff made me feel that everything was going
to be okay and they even made me laugh when I most needed it.
They became like a second family to me.
Alain displayed genuine concern for my complete recovery
before I could go back to training. He knew it was important for
me to get back quickly, but it was even more important to get back
100% healed.
Alain was very thorough with me and when my tendonitis
was still persisting after seven weeks, he took me, personally,
to see one of the top orthopedic surgeons in Montreal. Within a
week, the surgery was done. After four weeks rest I was able to
lace up again and return to the sport I love.
I am so grateful to Alain for his caring professionalism,
support and friendship. He has made a real impact in both my athletic
and personal life.
Thank you, Alain!!
